Numerical Study of Time-Splitting Spectral Discretizations of Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations in the Semiclassical Regimes

چکیده
In this paper we study the performance of time-splitting spectral approximations for general nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) in the semiclassical regimes, where the Planck constant ε is small. The time-splitting spectral approximation under study is explicit, unconditionally stable and conserves the position density in L1. Moreover it is time-transverse invariant and timereversible when the corresponding NLS is. Extensive numerical tests are presented for weak/strong focusing/defocusing nonlinearities, for the Gross–Pitaevskii equation, and for current-relaxed quantum hydrodynamics. The tests are geared towards the understanding of admissible meshing strategies for obtaining “correct” physical observables in the semiclassical regimes. Furthermore, comparisons between the solutions of the NLS and its hydrodynamic semiclassical limit are presented.

Numerical Methods for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Nonzero Far-field Conditions
In this paper we present numerical methods for the nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) in the semiclassical regimes: iε uεt = − ε 2 ∆u + V (x)u + f(|u|)u, x ∈ R, with nonzero far-field conditions. A time-splitting cosine-spectral (TS-Cosine) method is presented when the nonzero far-field conditions are or can be reduced to homogeneous Neumann conditions, a time-splitting Chebyshev-spectral (T...
متن کاملConvergence Analysis of High-Order Time-Splitting Pseudospectral Methods for Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations
In this work, the issue of favorable numerical methods for the space and time discretization of low-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equations is addressed. The objective is to provide a stability and error analysis of high-accuracy discretizations that rely on spectral and splitting methods. As a model problem, the time-dependent Gross–Pitaevskii equation arising in the description of Bose–Ei...
متن کاملOn Fourier Time-Splitting Methods for Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations in the Semiclassical Limit
We prove an error estimate for a Lie–Trotter splitting operator associated with the Schrödinger–Poisson equation in the semiclassical regime, when the WKB approximation is valid. In finite time, and so long as the solution to a compressible Euler–Poisson equation is smooth, the error between the numerical solution and the exact solution is controlled in Sobolev spaces, in a suitable phase/ampli...
متن کاملNumerical study of fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equations.
Using a Fourier spectral method, we provide a detailed numerical investigation of dispersive Schrödinger-type equations involving a fractional Laplacian in an one-dimensional case. By an appropriate choice of the dispersive exponent, both mass and energy sub- and supercritical regimes can be identified. This allows us to study the possibility of finite time blow-up versus global existence, the ...
